French belongs to the group of Romance languages primarily used in France, Belgium and Switzerland as well as in the former French colonies, and Quebec in Canada. This language is spoken as the first language by approximately 120 million people in the world, while around 200 million uses French in everyday communication. Also, French occupies the second place by the number of people who study it (immediately after the English language). Besides the English and German languages, French is one of the three working languages used by the European commission as France is one of the founding countries of the EU, while the main seat of the European Union institutions is in Brussels – which is a Francophone city.
