Polish is a Western-Slavic Indo-European language. The number of speakers using this language on a daily basis whether it is their maternal language or not, is estimated to 50 million people, thus making it occupy the 27th place on the world’s list. This language has four dialects: Silesian (śląski) dialect, Greater Poland (wielkopolski) dialect, Lesser Polish (małopolski) dialect, and Masovian (mazowiecki) dialect. Throughout the language development, it has been influenced by other various languages, and nowadays we can mostly see the impact of the English language on Polish.
Polish is the official language in Poland and in the European Union, but is also spoken in the Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, Romania, Ukraine, Lithuania, Belarus, Germany, etc. It is regulated by the Polish Language Council, and it has a Polish variant of Latin orthography.
